How they are related

Both are deer in the family Cervidae but sit in different subfamilies. The moose is a distinct lineage adapted to browsing in cold wetlands, while red deer belong to the group containing sika and wapiti. The naming complication is that European English often calls the moose an elk, which in North America means a different animal entirely.

Yes. In much of Europe, elk is the standard name for the animal North Americans call a moose, and they are the same species. The confusion arises because elk in North America means a different and smaller deer, the wapiti. Using moose and wapiti removes the ambiguity entirely, which is why both terms persist in technical writing.
How do the antlers differ?
Moose antlers are palmate — broad flattened plates with short points around the outer edge, giving a shovel-like outline. Red deer antlers consist of a sweeping main beam with distinct tines branching off, producing a rack that is tall and narrow rather than broad and flat.
