Is the freshwater angelfish related to the angelfish on coral reefs?
No. The freshwater fish is a South American cichlid and the reef fishes belong to a separate marine family whose closest relatives are the butterflyfishes. They share a common name because both are deep-bodied, laterally flattened and showy, which was enough for early trade naming. Nothing about the freshwater fish's biology, from its pair spawning to its water chemistry, transfers to the marine group.
Why do clownfish live in anemones when angelfish never do?
Anemonefishes evolved a tolerance for the stinging cells of a small number of host anemone species and gained near-permanent shelter from predators in exchange for defending and cleaning the host.
